All of us were born to be great. Not mediocre, but great. This one simple belief, and truth, lies at the foundation of all personal development and happiness.
How can this one simple belief change you from who you are now, to becoming great?
Because you were born with divine and unlimited potential. You were born with greatness already in you. This belief creates your reason and purpose for living and excelling. Why go through the pain of real personal development if greatness isn’t achievable by you? Would you be willing to pay the price? I wouldn’t.
If you haven’t thought “how to become great” lately, ask yourself this question:
What evidence is there that I am special?
If you believe in the Holy Bible, here is some evidence that may give you hope:
1. Psalm 82:6 say’s that we are all Children of the Most High.
2. Acts 17:29 calls us the Offspring of God.
3. Matthew 5:48 commands us to be perfect even as our Father in Heaven is perfect.
What do these mean to you? Don’t brush it off as fairy tale or unimportant. Think about it. Absorb it. This belief is the foundation of you as a person. It’s where your value comes from. It’s the reason for all motivation to become great, and the basis of all self-worth. It’s the belief that you are a child of an all-powerful God created to be perfect as He is perfect, that drives action and the commitment to push through difficult times.
Take a few minutes…
Write your feelings down about what the three evidences above mean to you, and re-read them throughout the coming days and nights. What action will you commit to that will change your beliefs and create new, positive habits?
How will these feelings change how you approach life? Will the challenge of how to become great drive you to get out of bed a little earlier to do that one extra thing you need to do? If I don’t get up earlier than others, I will never get the critical things down that I need to. There is simply too much to do during the time everyone else is awake to ever make a difference. Be different than those who sleep in. Get up, and do more before they wake up than they will during the entire day.
What do you think?
Will you protect your mind from negative thoughts that can take your body over like a cancer? Will you think twice before bagging on a commitment? I wrote an article about practicing not-quitting which I think you’ll like.
This very morning, I recommitted to eat better and to exercise more, to measure my eating and exercise to make myself accountable, and to process stress a little better. Why this morning? Because the question of becoming great has been on my mind. The thought of how I can honor the gift of life and my divine ancestry more fully is causing me to act. Yes, I’ve had to recommit before. That’s okay. Life is about staying on track more than not.
How will you be different today? Tomorrow? What will you commit to do better?
Will you think differently about someone who has done you wrong? Will you forgive them?
Beginning now, stop comparing yourself to others. Stop being critical of others. Why? Because we’re all different. We have different strengths, and we have different weaknesses. It’s not fair to those we judge, and it’s not fair to ourselves. Love and be a strength to others.
Protect yourself from attack.
Mark Twain said to:
“…keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
I love this! Not because it’s easy, obviously, but because it’s absolutely critical to your physical, mental, and spiritual health and happiness. If you stay around and listen to those who want you to feel small, you’ll think and act small.
Never allow anyone to sabotage your dreams.
Mario Puzo, The Godfather, believed that:
“Great men are not born great, they grow great.”
I love this! I’ve had to work for what I have. I’ve had to fight to rise about my self-doubt. Can you relate? Life isn’t designed for the most gifted or those that inherit wealth. It’s designed for the rest of us. Those that have day to day battles but who refuse to settle for less than they deserve. Life is for fighters determined to make a difference in the world.
So today, give others a break, and give yourself a break. Life is too short to resent others or to be overly critical of ourselves. Break free from the strangling grip of mediocrity. Allow youself to be great, one thought and one forward step at a time.
